One of our featured diabetics is Kyler Claussen from Forsyth, Missouri. Kyler is an amazing kid who's family is very involved with our JDRF group here in Springfield. In this feature post, you get Kyler's first hand point of view of what it is like to live with type 1 diabetes. To get to know Kyler and his family, join us in our next JDRF group meeting on Tuesday, May 20th.
Hello my name is Kyler Claussen and I am 11 years old and have had diabetes for about 4 years now. For the people who are new to diabetes I would like you to know that it doesn't change your life forever or anything, in fact it can make it better sometimes. You know when people tell you how strong they are and how many push-ups they do every day? You can tell them that you take 2 shots a day and have probably taken more shots than they ever will.
When I was diagnosed with diabetes I thought that it was the end of the world, the apocalypse. But now I can hardly remember it. It was kind of weird when I was diagnosed I didn't know what was happening. I thought I might have cancer or something.
But now I know that I don't have anything as bad. Now I walk around with people as if I didn't even have diabetes. I can show off how tough I am to my friends. Trust me its not that bad.
Thank you Kyler, you are right...it's not that bad. :) To donate to our JDRF Ozarks walk team and help us find a cure for diabetes, click here.
